ZEN style interior

The clients are a young couple, lovers of order, seekers of deep meaning, who travel a lot, lead an active lifestyle and strive to make harmonious and verified decisions. Their life is dynamic and to get away from the bustle of the capital, they wanted to create an atmosphere of calm, silence and privacy in their flat, to exhale and feel that only ‘here and now’ is important, and all problems and hardships are no longer important.

The main idea behind the design of this flat in the centre of Kiev is the rejection of everything superfluous, the balance between spatial emptiness and each interior object. This is the way of thought, action and practice. Zen has nothing to do with calmness or indifferent mind. Zen means living with eyes open to the reality of the world. An interior with this philosophy brings purity, harmony and clarity. It does not allow overload and superfluous forms. Emphasis on right angles, verified and clear lines. The project prefers natural, calm, natural colours and materials.

The plus point of this flat is the large windows and the wonderful view of the city. We wanted to preserve the natural light as much as possible and add air. Initially, the layout was such that when entering the flat we were faced with a blank wall separating the corridor from the living room. The corridor was dark and narrow. It was decided to make a redesign and remove this partition, thus expanding the space and filling it with natural light. The curtains were chosen for this interior not by chance either. The textiles are light, transparent from natural fabrics, and when you touch them you get aesthetic pleasure. And in the evening, when the lights of the big city come on and we can observe this beautiful view outside the window, the element of relaxation in the interior is the lighting scenarios (chamber lighting and subdued warm lighting that streams from the floor lamp and pendant lights by the bed), in which you can relax after a busy day outside the walls of the house.

The project utilises flush-mounted elements such as doors, skirting boards, lighting and sanitary ware. The furniture is lined up with decorative wall panels and the floor-to-ceiling doors give a feeling of expansion and unity to the whole space. Everything is hidden as much as possible and does not interfere with the flow of traffic. The stone chosen for the worktop and island emphasises its naturalness and naturalness, which evokes pleasant tactile sensations. The upholstered fabric headboard of the bed, which is ceiling-high, fulfils in addition to its aesthetic function
functions as an additional noise insulation.

The beauty of empty space and the value of silence gives you the opportunity to think, search for new ideas and get rid of the confusing stream of thoughts.
